Poem of my life

I wish I'd studied harder - Dough Cushman

I wish I'd studied harder

I think i hit whyoming wrong

Though i don't want to make mistakes
i make them awl the same.
it's no one elses fawlt but mine
i have to take the blaime
i tried to spell Cunneddykit
but really i just guessed...
if i had stoodied harder
then i mite have passed this test

It's already been a month since my grandma passed away and my grandpa moved in with us. Time kind of flew by really quickly, but I wasn't exactly having fun. I guess it's only gone by because life will only allow you to dwell on the past for so long. Plus, we've all been forced to go back to our daily routines of work, school and what not. There are only so many days of work you can take off and days to push back before your finals/papers are due. Moreover, what I really think helped pass the time was the fact that we all have hope in seeing her once again, in a better place. It might take many many years before we'll ever see her again, but we will, eventually.

Yeah, nothing is as good as it should be
'Cause this is the rehearsal
Yeah, in between the was and the could be
Love is the reversal

I guess they're right. Earth is only a rehearsal for what is yet to come. But in the nature of rehearsals, we should try our best to appreciate one another so we don't screw up in the real thing.

I was talking to a couple of friends earlier today and C brought up that in one of my earlier blog entries, I shared about something F shared about that really resonated with me. I remember blogging about it but I couldn't remember what exactly it was that he said that I resonated with so I decided to go back and check out what I wrote.
It doesn't really matter how much we do, or what we do in the matter of fact. But if the center of what we do isn't about God, then it's all in vain. Part of why I want to go into social work is because i thought it was a realistic and practical way of helping people and do the cliche, yet the truth of showing God's love. Isn't it really ironic that my axing of devotions and God time to study totally contradicts with my true intention of taking this course in the first place?!

You told me
Look for You and I will find
So I'm here
Like I'm searching for the first time
Revive me, Jesus
Make this cold heart start to move
Help me rediscover You

It's really weird that I'm going through the exact same thing again. Sometimes it feels like I'm just wandering around the avenues of life not really knowing what I'm doing. I guess it shows how much I've grown in the past 6 months.

Proof that procrastination IS the root of all evil!....or at least the root of my eye spasms

My right eye has been twitching like crazy the past week or so, to the point where I want to just smack it until it stops. Yes, if you can't tell, I'm really annoyed by it. I've been trying to stretch my neck out because I heard or read somewhere that your eye twitching is because your neck muscles are tensed and is hitting your nerve. Unfortunately, it's not quite working, so I decided to try and find some sort of remedy on the good old internet. "For most people eye twitching is not a serious condition and typically results from excessive fatigue or stress." Stress = not prepared for my exams <-- procrastinating. PROCRASTINATION IS THE ROOT OF ALL EVIL!!!!

I finally went out shooting today! Got some that I was quite pleased with. Uploading pictures shall be added onto my uber long to do list. Maybe not uber long, but it sure seems so =(

I had my first final today. Can't say I did well cause I didn't know some of the written question but oh well, it's over. Usually I'm really nervous for the first exam of the bunch but for some reason i wasn't worried about this one at all. Anyway, I finished the exam 35 minutes early, but stupidly enough, I waited for the bus for 40 minutes and it was super windy tonight. Should've stayed to check over my answers and what not. I have a horrible habbit of just leaving after i finish writing an exam. I swear I have ADD. My attention span just doesn't allow for me to stay an extra 10 minutes to double check my answers. Anyway, just wanted to note this down so i can remind myself of my stupidity when and if i reread this post. The final question of the exam was essentially an essay about how to be good parents. (This was psyc 302, infancy psyc) The question states that you have to address 4 different areas, prenatal development, brain development, language development, and social-emotional development. I didn't read the social emotional development chapter so i made up everything but it was logical and probably true. However, I was missing a point for the prenatal development part but I wanted to leave the exam so bad I made up a stupid answer. I said that mothers should try and hold in the baby and not give birth until it is due because there are many problems/diseases associated with pre-mys. Might as well try and be a comic relief for the TA's and hopefully get some brownie points.

I was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too ambitious no doubt. I essentially researched the whole day i still haven't finished yet!

Unintentional Sabbath

I've never adhered to the rule about sabbath before but it's been something I've been thinking about. It so happens that my procrastination led me to a good day of rest today. Who knew procrastination could actually lead to something good?! Since I started sabbath-ing today, I've decided that I shall continue on, which means I'll study/work like crazy in the 6 days and rest on the Sunday.

Anyway, the idea of my unintentional sabbath-ing popped into my head while I was watching TV, so i decided to make a studying schedule. I've never really planned a study schedule this far ahead of time. I have 23 days (not counting today) until my first exam. I've throughly planned out what I'm going to study and on which day other then for one of my psychology courses. The prof for that course got into a biking accident so she's recovering still. In the last email she sent, she said that she'll let us know the plan for the remainder of the course. I'm assuming that it's changed just because of the way she phrased it. Plus, we've only covered just over half of what the original syllabus said we will.

Hopefully I'll stick to the plan and actually do what i planned out. It might be just a tad ambitious, but if it works out, it'll be awesome. (I completely finish studying for everything before my first exam starts, which means reading 4 textbooks plus the geo custom course package and all the additional reading in the span of 23 days! ) I forgot to add, I still have a paper due within about a week, but that's also planned out. (Also, quite ambitiously)

Tuesday, March 23, 2010

I don't know how He does it nor do I know why He does it, but all I know is that God is awesome and He's always there when I ask for His help no matter what. Gloria Dios!

I was "studying" but went downstairs just to procrastinate and my mom told me THE most ridiculous thing ever so i couldn't help but write about it. My sister's former tutor contacted my sister and asked if she wanted to tutor someone because she was too busy. (This sentence sounds terribly wrong but my brain's on the verge of turning into mush so i can't think properly) Never in the world would you ever guess how old the student is. NEVER! The tutee is a kindergartener. Kindergarten?!?! Who the heck would waste $20 on getting a tutor for their 5? year old?! I bet it's some crazy Chinese lady who wants her kid to stand out in his/her class. How do you even tutor a kindergartener. All you learn is how to share and play fair! Sometimes, you'd learn how to count and sing songs, but neither are tutor-able subjects! I just can't wrap my mind around the idea of a kindergartener being tutored. Absolutely insane.

Super random story

I've been racking my brains out studying almost the whole day, but I still feel like I'm going to do horrible on my exam. In frustration, I put my hand on my head and start grabbing/pulling my hair (bad? habit of mine) and for some reason, i felt this lump in my hair. Being curious, and of course wanting to get distracted from reading my notes any further, I pick out the piece of hair and cut it off. To my surprise, i found that string of hair tied in a perfect knot! People always talk about knotty and kinky hair, but i thought it was just a saying. Never actually knew that hair magically ties itself into a knot. Anyway, continuing on this theme of not wanting to study anymore, a particular incident fled to my head. Back in grade 3 or 4, I remember a friend of mine had this long lock? of hair. If i remember correctly, he called it a rat tail. So me and this other friend would always, for fun, tie a knot in his "tail." Quite funny, now i think about it. And i remember specifically one time that he got really ticked off with me because i tied up the bunch of hair soooo hard and that the knot was sooooo tight, that his mom couldn't even untie it, so he had to cut the end of it off. Opps. haha. And it's time to get back to the grind! What a great 5 minutes of rest.

Edit:Starfield CD!

I had an opportunity to attend an Olympic speed skating event 2 days ago, Feb 23, 2010 - Men's 10000 m . I wasn't actually too thrilled about it up until a few days beforehand when the hype of the Olympics finally got to me. Even then, i was only super excited about attending an event, not specifically the 10000 m race. Speed skating isn't/wasn't something I'm interested in, especially not 10000 m race as that means you get to see 2 guys skating around the rink 25 times. Doesn't sound that entertaining eh? Plus, there were no Canadians in that event so who would i cheer for? Anyway, i still went because it is a once in a lifetime kind of thing. To my surprise, it was actually quite fun. The first thing i noticed when I stepped into the oval was the sea of not red, but orange. I had no idea that speed skating is such a big thing in Netherlands. It was crazy in there! I swear i lost a bit of my hearing in the 3 hours that i was there for. Cheering, screaming, yelling, ringing, (insert onomatopoeia for horns)-ing, crying, cursing and of course the other thing i heard was silence. Silence from the utter shock and disappointment for Sven Kramer beating the Olympic record by 6 point something seconds, only to be disqualified because his coach gave him the wrong instructions for a lane change. Right after Kramer finished the race and his coach got a chance to speak to him, he took off his sunglasses and threw them on the ground. Me, being totally ignorant about the whole thing, thought he was sooooooo happy and in shock that he did so well so he threw his shades away. But of course, he was only FPH-ing. You can't really blame the guy though. 4 years of training JUST for this, and this tiny mistake that he made cost him a gold AND an Olympic record. Plus, it wasn't even his fault. If you watch the replay, he was wavering between the lanes, he knew he was suppose to go on the outside lane, but he hesitated and went on the inside, listening to his coach. Either way, his country got a medal, so it's not TOO bad. His disqualification allowed for his teammate to rise to podium and receive a bronze medal.

Right after the games and a late lunch I went and got the new Starfield CD! Even though i haven't gone through the whole album, it can easily be summarized by 2 words. Starfield = Awesome. Nothing else needs to be said.

I forgot to mention that this is my first CD EVER. Shocker, i know. I've gotten CD's before for other people, but I've just never gotten one for myself.

I recently downloaded and started watching the first season of Doogie Howser and I have got to say, it's not at all what I expected. For those who don't know what it is, it's a drama?sitcom? from 1989 about Neil Patrick Harris being a 16 year old genius who scored perfect on his S.A.T's at the age of 6, had a college degree by 10, and graduated from medical school at the age of 14. The whole series revolves around Doogie's (NPH's) busy life; balancing his time with the moral dilemmas as an on call doctor at a hospital and the normal teenage predicaments in his daily life.

During and throughout the first episode, a question kept popping into my mind. How the heck did someone like Doogie become Barney Stinson?!?! As much as I think Barney is awesomely hilarious, I must say, I definitely appreciate Doogie more than Barney, by far. I guess its the innocence factor. I mean, what's not to like? A goody goody teenager who his absurdly brilliant. Either way, Neil Patrick Harris is an awesome actor. There is no doubt as to why he won so many awards.

And here, as promised. The answers to the previous blog. I know they were taken out of context, but it's not like I was going to test you on it or anything.

1. Herman = Hormone

2. Surveys= Cervix

3. Isolate = I select (She even spelt( I swear it's a word!) it wrong. Isolette)

4. La-teen = Latin

And just for kicks, I found out one of my uncle's friends is called Monster...well, Monsta to be exact, but you get what i mean.

Psyc 302 lingo

Part of being a student is trying to decipher what the prof is lecturing about. It took me a while, but I eventually got them. I now have a whole word document dedicated to this where I can decode lectures. Give it a try, it's actually quite fun. Hint: the course is called Psychology of infancy, and the prof's last name is Ma (Chinese) so that we're clear what accent you're dealing with. I'll post up the answers whenever I decide to post next. Have fun!

1. Herman

2. Surveys

3. I select

4. la-teen

Read the label before consumption! / First day/Sir. THAT, was very fast

I woke up this morning feeling a little nautious (is this spelt wrong...? it's underlined, but i'm pretty sure that's how you spell it. By the way, the word "spelt" is also underlined...)for some odd reason. I was trying to pinpoint exactly what caused it but just couldn't so i just went back to the usual morning routine. While brushing my teeth, i remembered a friend telling me a story about him hurling on the bus, which was, in hindsight to him and me, quite funny, however, I wouldn't want to go through that so I decided to take gravol later. After getting dressed and ready, i went downstairs and took the pill and quickly swallowed down some breakfast only to realize i had just missed the bus. Oh well, the car was in the garage, so i drove. Not too long into the drive i start getting really really sleepy. My eyelids were literally closing on me and i swear i fell asleep in random spurts of times. Then i realized, crap! Gravol makes you drowsy. However, it didn't make sense because I've had gravol so many times and i've never gotten drowsy on it. Anyway, i made it to school on time and safely. I just kind of zoned out for my first class because i felt soooo tired.

**********************************************************************************

So today was my first day back and suprisingly, I quite enjoyed it. I only have 4 classes this term geo 328 (Historical geography of Canada)the title sounds kind of boring but I've read reviews on the prof and he sounds awesome. I have yet to read a negative comment about him. He just sounds like the perfect prof. Psyc 302 (infancy) it's basically development of a baby to a tot. I think the material is kind of interesting but the prof is....I'm not really sure how to describe her. She's Chinese, with not too bad of an accent but she echoes herself which makes it really weird sometimes. What i mean by that is she always repeats the last 2-3 words at the end of a sentence. For example, if the sentence was "It contains confidential information and details on how to contact us", she would probably repeat either how to contact us, or contact us. She doesn't do it for every single sentence, but random ones. Maybe i'll find a pattern when i get bored in her lectures? Another Psych class, which is literally right below my first psych class Psych 315 (childhood and adolesence). The prof sounds really really enthusiastic about what she's teaching and you can here it in her tone of voice and you can see it in her ecstatic body movement. She hasn't really said much about the material but i'm sure it's going to be a fun class. Last class is Social work which is only on thursdays so I don't know anything about it. The prof guest lectured at my other social work last term and she was pretty good so i'm hoping i'll like it.

**********************************************************************************

While driving home, i decided maybe i'd call London Drugs again to see whether or not the shipment for my camera came in yet. It would add on to the already awesome day if it actually came in. So I decided i'd call and give it a try, but because of the new law banning new drivers from talking on the phone will driving, i decided i'd drive to London Drugs and just call them there because i didn't want to go in and ask in person. So i called in, and it was FINALLY HERE! The man on the phone told me to hurry up and come and get it in a "YAY!i'm very excited for you" kind of tone. So i walked up as slow as i possibly could so that he wouldn't realize that i called him from downstairs haha. I also went in and walked around before going to the camera department lol. So i went in nonchalantly and asked him about the camera and his jaw just dropped to the floor, eyes popped out "Sir. THAT, was very fast." I almost burst out laughing at my own stupidity haha. Oh well I finally got my camera!!!!!!!

Monday, January 4, 2010

I don't remember if I already talked about this, but I've sort of decided to pursue my studies in the field of social work, which is a separate school in UBC, but still under the faculty of arts (I'm not really sure how that works). One of the prerequisite courses for the program is social work 200, which i just finished last term. I had to get at least a 72% in that course to be even considered but i ended up just shy of 72%. It sucked. It sucked A LOT but i didn't give up quite yet. I talked to the social work program advisor and the admissions service people and they both said that i could take an online course at Thompson Rivers University in place of that course. I went on the TRU website to read up a bit about the course and it sounds even enough. 4 assignments, no quizes, no tests, midterms, or final AND you essentially get a free 20% because the first assignment is keeping a reflective journal throughout the course. It's a pass/fail assignment where you get 100% if you hand it in. Anyway, i wanted to sign up for the course but i wanted to double check with arts advising just to see how transfer credits worked just in case. However, I couldn't get a hold of them until this morning because they weren't open during the holidays. To my disappointment, I was told that i'm not allowed to take a course at another institute and be enrolled in courses at UBC concurrently, which means I either have to redo the course next year at UBC or take the online course in the summer. Either way, i can't apply to SOWK program until next year aW$jore%4!@h12rha#%Y$%Y!!!!!!! I have to waste another year in ubc for nothing! Either that, or I come up with a back up plan quick and go for that instead? Or get a BSW and and BA in something....? Either way i have to waste more money and time in ubc =="

On a side note, my camera STILL isn't here and it's been more than a week now! What a horrible day it's been =/

On a more positive note, I got an extra day to rest because i only have school on tuesdays and thursdays this term. yay!
